Karen Bables
Welcome to my blog about living as apprentices of Jesus! I am passionate about spiritual transformation and about helping others become like Jesus for the sake of others.
One of my favorite quotes is: "Whatever job we get and whatever task we are assigned can serve as a container for grace" (Eugene Peterson in "Practical Resurrection"). I pray that the words and sentences on this blog may also serve as "containers of grace" for its readers.
I ordinarily post on Wednesdays and Saturdays and welcome your comments on any post!

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). A few days ago I heard birds chirping with all their hearts just as the sun was rising – birds and sun, the harbingers … Continue reading

“Just Be the Tree God Meant You to Be”
On January 10, 2018 I wrote about one of my favorite children’s books, You are Special. Thinking about that book reminded me of a post about another of my favorite Max Lucado books, The Oak Inside the Acorn. Since this blog now … Continue reading

Whatness and Thisness – Harmony with Others, Part 2
I learned some new terms this week: whatness and thisness.* These words (while seeming to belong in Alice in Wonderland) reflect a deep spiritual truth. Before the 13th century, philosophers had commonly spoken of the term “quiddity” (from the Latin word … Continue reading

Why Get out of Bed?
Sometimes it’s hard to get out of bed in the morning. I turn on my bedside radio and hear more of our president’s lies and mean-spirited insults. I picture Rep. Adam Schiff’s weary face as he tries to keep the House Intelligence … Continue reading
