Karen Bables
Welcome to my blog about living as apprentices of Jesus! I am passionate about spiritual transformation and about helping others become like Jesus for the sake of others.
One of my favorite quotes is: "Whatever job we get and whatever task we are assigned can serve as a container for grace" (Eugene Peterson in "Practical Resurrection"). I pray that the words and sentences on this blog may also serve as "containers of grace" for its readers.
I ordinarily post on Wednesdays and Saturdays and welcome your comments on any post!

“. . . the one sin I have come to fear more than any other is certainty. Certainty is the great enemy of unity. Certainty is the deadly enemy of tolerance. Even Christ was not certain at the end. ‘Eli, … Continue reading

Living the Serenity Prayer – The Present Moment
The Serenity Prayer has a long and rather mysterious history. The first three lines were made popular by Reinhold Niebuhr (1892 -1971), as part of a 1934 lecture. The modern prayer is several lines longer. In 1941, the prayer was … Continue reading

Wow, Thank You, and Yes!
Almost exactly a year ago on this blog I rather sheepishly revealed a guilty pleasure: Hallmark Christmas movies. This year, a year of ugly politics, horrific tragedy, and un- relenting gloom, I am watching even more and learning why these … Continue reading

Changing Seasons
I live in the mid-west area of the United States, a place where we experience all the seasons. I can’t imagine living where the leaves don’t turn red and gold or snowflakes don’t drift into fluffy piles – even if the … Continue reading
