This blog is home to more than 700 posts. At times I re-blog a post that newer readers may not have seen. This Christmas blog first appeared on December 21, 2016. Its message is even more crucial in 2017.
The following poem Now the Work of Christmas Begins by Howard Thurman (1899 – 1981) invites us to carry meaning from the blessings and gifts of Christmas throughout the year. Thurman was an African-American theologian, educator, and civil rights leader. For more information in this blog about Howard Thurman, click on this link.
When the song of the angels is stilled,
when the star in the sky is gone,
when the kings and princes are home,
when the shepherds are back with their flock,
the work of Christmas begins:
to feed the hungry, to release the prisoner,
to rebuild nations, to bring peace among all,
To make music in the heart.
I pray that we may all take his thoughtful words to heart in 2018.
