Karen Bables
Welcome to my blog about living as apprentices of Jesus! I am passionate about spiritual transformation and about helping others become like Jesus for the sake of others.
One of my favorite quotes is: "Whatever job we get and whatever task we are assigned can serve as a container for grace" (Eugene Peterson in "Practical Resurrection"). I pray that the words and sentences on this blog may also serve as "containers of grace" for its readers.
I ordinarily post on Wednesdays and Saturdays and welcome your comments on any post!

From My Reading
“Our spiritual journey requires a deepening awareness of our own shadow and light. It requires a rigorous commitment to ‘catching ourselves in the act’ of automatic, programmed responses. It requires choosing instead to respond from the place of light in … Continue reading
Wendell Berry: “Do the Two Things You Can Do”
“We all come from divorce. This is an age of divorce. Things that belong together have been taken apart. And you can’t put it all together. What you can do, is the only thing you can do. Two things. Not … Continue reading

Making the History We Want to Live in
The news this morning is particularly ugly — bombings, natural disasters, refugee crises, government corruption, nasty presidential primary politics, armed conflict in every corner. I am reminded of a post I wrote for this blog in 2013 which I am … Continue reading

Emptying Ourselves
Sometimes life is a boxing match. The jabs, the right hook, the sucker punch all take their toll, but then comes the unexpected knock-out punch. And we go down. Recently the punches have just kept on coming in my life and … Continue reading

Enough of God to Go Around!
This is a post from 2012 that I am re-posting because of the value of the concepts of scarcity and abundance to us all. A dust-up at work the other day reminded me of something I learned from Stephen Covey … Continue reading
Going Deeper with God – The Urge for Power
Eugene Peterson’s book Eat this Book teaches us to chew on a passage of scripture, digest it, and then put it to use in practical ways. Our Christian fathers and mothers called this process Lectio Divina. This passage describes two disciples … Continue reading
