Karen Bables
Welcome to my blog about living as apprentices of Jesus! I am passionate about spiritual transformation and about helping others become like Jesus for the sake of others.
One of my favorite quotes is: "Whatever job we get and whatever task we are assigned can serve as a container for grace" (Eugene Peterson in "Practical Resurrection"). I pray that the words and sentences on this blog may also serve as "containers of grace" for its readers.
I ordinarily post on Wednesdays and Saturdays and welcome your comments on any post!

From My Reading
“In his teaching and preaching, Jesus was forever calling our attention to the seemingly trivial, the small, and the insignificant—like lost children, lost coins, lost sheep, a mustard seed. The Kingdom involves the ability to see God within those people … Continue reading

. . . from Kayla McClurg, one of my favorite writers: “The world says, try to avoid anything that brings pain or, God forbid, might even make us weep, but Jesus says if we never weep, how will we learn … Continue reading
From My Reading
“Many concerned Christians today lament lack of power in the contemporary church. One sure reason is that most Christians have never considered that they must experience anything remotely akin to the wait at Jerusalem [for the Holy Spirit]. They run … Continue reading
Being a Disrupter
Recently I heard a new business term used by Mark Cuban (one of the sharks on the TV show Shark Tank). After researching the word, I learned that it has been “current” for some time now. The term is: disruption. In … Continue reading

“. . . What are the spirits that bend and stunt each of us, that keep us from living fully upright and free? For some of us it might be past shame or grief, left untended until it lies in stagnant pools … Continue reading

Who am I when My Body Fails Me? – Someone Facing Death
In his book, The Walk, The Life-Changing Journey of Two Friends, song writer Michael Card describes a funeral service for an 8-year old girl killed in an auto accident, during which one of the participants said, ” We were not created … Continue reading

Going Deeper with God – Passing the Peace
Eugene Peterson’s book Eat this Book teaches us to chew on a passage of scripture, digest it, and then put it to use in practical ways. Our Christian fathers and mothers called this process Lectio Divina. These passages from the New Testament … Continue reading

Choices – “Lower Yourself”
For the next few months, this blog will occasionally look at the concept of choice. It is true that “Life is a sum of all your choices.” But do we even realize that every response involves a choice, that we … Continue reading
