$3 Worth of God

I would like to buy $3 worth of God, please, not enough to explode my soul or disturb my sleep, but just enough to equal a cup of warm milk or a snooze in the sunshine. I want ecstasy, not transformation; I want warmth of the womb, not a new birth. I want a pound of the Eternal in a paper sack. I would like to buy $3 worth of God, please.

  1. This quote is definitely a hard truth. Apprentices of Jesus are to be in the business of becoming more of whom God created them to be . . . and that does requires an exploding of the soul and a re-shaping into the image of Jesus.

Phwew. This is tough. I particularly quake at this phrase: “I want warmth of the womb, not a new birth.” This presses on my sternum like a weight, because it speaks so clearly of my consistent quest for comfort in my Christian life.

Lord, in your mercy, hear the Spirit’s prayer within me, and ignore the self-bent whining I so often offer instead. Work out my good, not my will. Tune my ears to hear your invitation to transformation, and give with it the grace to accept.

wow! Isn’t that all that most of us desire….it’s very convicting! thanks for the quote.
